SPPU, COEP and SIU Ranked Top for Innovation by Ministry of Education

Three big school institutions in Pune on Tuesday secured high rankings in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation and Achievements (ARIIA) 2021 launched by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Savitribai Phule Pune University has been ranked eighth under state-funded school category, College of Engineering, Pune ranks first in government school category, while Symbiosis International University has been ranked in this year’s ARIIA in the self-financed private or deemed college category got a tenth place.

This is the third year that MoE has released the ranking of higher education institutions in the country. Conceived in 2018, the ranking is provided considering their contribution to advertising startups, entrepreneurship, patent filed, approved and commercialized; Institution of pre-incubation and incubation centers, different types of startups on campuses, programs on innovation provided among many different parameters.

A total of 1,430 large schools participated in the ARIIA 2021 assessment. The seven categories are exclusively centrally funded technical institutions, state-funded and deemed universities, authority faculties or universities, self-financed and deemed universities, individual schools and institutions, institutions of importance and central universities and non-technical institutions.

Dr. Subas Sarkar, MoS, MoE said that the increasing participation of high school institutions is an indication of the seriousness of innovation and entrepreneurship.

“ARIIA will encourage and assist in building an ecosystem that can foster innovation resulting in commercialization on campuses. ARIIA will prepare our institutions to break into the world’s leading rankings,” the government said.

The top ten institutions under centrally funded universities or institutions are IIT Madras, Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Indian Institute of Science, IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Kharagpur, National Institute of Technology, Kozhikode and Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology.
Panjab University Delhi Technical University, Netaji Subhash Technological University, Delhi, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat Technical University, Gujarat University ranked first among state-funded universities Stay on and Periyar University, Delhi.
PSG College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, LD College of Engineering, Gujarat, Tyagarajar College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Maharashtra were the topmost institutions under the Government Technical Institutions category.
Ten best self-financing universities in this 12 months are Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha; Chitkara University, Chandigarh; Lovely University, Delhi; SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu; Pandit Deendayal Petroleum Institute, Gujarat; Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh University, Vellore University of Technology and Amity University.
