Taslima Nasreen criticizes calling surrogacy a “readymade baby”

While Taslima did not mention any names, her comments came a day after Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas announced that they have welcomed their first child through surrogacy. Taslima said that if “there is a bad need to have a child, adopt the homeless”.

Writer Taslima Nasreen, who is known for her controversial comments, has once again created a ruckus with her remarks on surrogacy. Taslima criticized the process of surrogacy and called it a narcissistic trait of the wealthy, calling surrogate babies “readymade babies”.

While Taslima did not mention any names, her comments came a day after Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas announced that they have welcomed their first child through surrogacy. Taslima said that if “there is a bad need to have a child, adopt the homeless”.

Taslima tweeted, “Surrogacy is possible because there are poor women. Rich people always want the existence of poverty in society for their own interests. If you badly need to raise a child, adopt a homeless one.

Children must inherit your qualities – it is just a selfish narcissistic ego.” She also wrote, “How do mothers feel when they have their readymade babies through surrogacy? Do they have the same feelings for babies as mothers who give birth?”

Various reactions are coming on social media on Taslima’s tweet. Some users reported that many opt for surrogacy for medical reasons, while others pointed out that how one wants to be a parent is a personal and personal choice.

Another user said that commercial surrogacy is banned in many countries including India, so it is not really exploitation. While some users said that people should adopt, some users also pointed out that if one cannot do justice to the adoption, then they should not. One woman wrote that using the word “readymade” was insensitive on the part of the author.

A few months back, Preity Zinta and her husband Gene Goodenough became parents to twins through surrogacy. Be it Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan’s youngest son or Karan Johar’s twins, many celebs have opted for surrogacy in recent times.
