Air Quality Commission directed Delhi’s industries to run from PNG

New Delhi: The Air Quality Management Commission in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas along with the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), and Indraprastha Gas Limited to run the industries operating in Delhi with piped natural gas. Reviewed progress made.

Around 1644 industrial units spread over 50 industrial areas of Delhi have been identified which are yet to start using piped natural gas (PNG). Now industries are using PNG in large numbers.

The Commission emphasized the need to adopt PNG by all the industries identified in Delhi. This is being done keeping in mind the fact that the industrial sector contributes the most to increase air pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) were greatly affected by the completion of the pipeline network, metering and related infrastructure.

M / s IGL, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi were asked to work closely with the industrial units to meet the target of completing the infrastructure works so that all the identified industrial units in Delhi Start fully using PNG instead of other fuels by 31 January 2021.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee was also directed to conduct inspections and identify industries using non-approved fuels and to take stringent punitive action in case of non-compliance.
