Indira Gandhi’s 103rd Birth Anniversary : PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi paid tribute

Indira Gandhi was born Indira Nehru into a Kashmiri Pandit family on 19 November 1917 in Allahabad. Her father, Jawaharlal Nehru, was a leading figure in the movement for independence from British rule, and became the first Prime Minister of the Dominion (and later Republic) of India. Gandhi served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 but from 1980 until her assassination in 1984.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary.

In a tweet, the prime minister said, “Tributes to former PM Smt. Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary”. Gandhi is one of the most iconic leaders of the Congress.

Rahul Gandhi paid tributes to Gandhi , calling her an efficient prime minister. He also paid floral tributes to Gandhi at her memorial ‘Shakti Sthal’ in New Delhi . The Congress on Thursday paid rich tributes to former prime minister Gandhi on her birth anniversary with Rahul Gandhi saying the whole country still gives the instance of her impressive leadership.

“A trailblazer, a visionary, a true leader and a superb daughter of our motherland, Gandhi was much more than a serious Minister to our citizens; she was the revitalising strength in their go after greatness & prosperity. Today, we pay a proud tribute to India’s Indira,” the Congress tweeted from its official Twitter handle.

“The whole country still gives the instance of her impressive leadership, but I always remember her as my beloved grandmother. Her teachings inspire me constantly,” the previous Congress chief said.

Congress’ chief spokesperson and party general secretary Randeep Surjewala also paid rich tributes to Gandhi on her 103rd birth anniversary.
“Known because the Thatcher across the planet , the one determinedly , courage and amazing ability, the primary and only woman Prime Minister of India, Gandhi . My tributes to her on her birth anniversary,” he said.

The Indian Youth Congress marked her birth anniversary by distributing blankets to the poor and needy in Delhi.

“Celebrating birth anniversary of Thatcher Late Gandhi with poor & needy by distributing blankets to save lots of them from biting cold of Delhi,” IYC president Srinivas B V tweeted.

In a tweet paying tribute to Gandhi , Mahila Congress said, “We pay our deepest homage to the embodiment of Shakti, Former PM Gandhi .” “Her unflinching dedication and determination towards the nation’s progress and her indomitable courage to beat the foremost difficult circumstances is an idea to us,” the Mahila Congress said.
